Mariners set Minor League rosters

The Minor League rosters were set Wednesday. Erasmo Ramirez will begin the year on the disabled list, apparently not fully recovered yet from his arm issue that flared up late in Spring Training.

Top pitching prospect Taijuan Walker will begin the year again in Double-A Jackson, along with infielder Brad Miller and catcher John Hicks, two other youngsters who impressed this spring.

Tacoma’s starting rotation looks like an interesting mix of prospects and veterans with Danny Hultzen, James Paxton, Jeremy Bonderman, D.J. Mitchell and Brian Sweeney in the mix. Catcher Mike Zunino, last year’s first-round Draft pick, will work with that group after splitting last year between A and AA ball.

Hector Noesi and Chance Ruffin, two guys with Major League experience, will begin the year in Jackson, with Ruffin being converted to a starter after struggling in relief last year in Tacoma. Noesi started 18 games for Seattle last year, but has been a disappointment since being acquired the Yankees and will be asked to figure things out at the Double-A level to start.

Here’s the full rosters for all four of the full-season Mariners clubs.

The Mavericks open with a seven-game road trip beginning with Lancaster before returning home, while the LumberKings begin the season on the road with a four-game series at Burlington.

Why is Erasmo Ramirez on the disabled list? I don’t remember hearing/reading anything about him being injured.

He was limited in his last two weeks of Major League camp due to a minor arm issue. That’s why he didn’t start the last few weeks of camp and ultimately was eliminated from the starting competition.

Thanks for the write up Greg! Interested to see how Ruffin’s transition goes, I’m also mildly surprised Walker is staying in Jackson. I really hope to see some emergence from a few of the young guys(Ramirez, Hultzen, Paxton, Walker) – cause Saunders and Beaven do ZERO for me and have such limited upside. When Saunders is bad(like spring) he doesn’t give a team a chance.

Why isn’t Victor Sanchez on any of the full season squads? After he had a really good season for a 17 year old at SS Everett I expected him to start the year at Clinton at least. Is he hurt?
